Can i use a drone on the tour?
No. Drones are not permitted on our tours.
In New Zealand, a Department of Conservation permit is required to use drones around marine mammals.
In addition to the permit requirement, we are passionate about giving our guests the opportunity to encounter wild animals in their natural environment, and believe the noise and logistics of drone use is intrusive to this experience.
We are also fully committed to ensuring the safety of our guests on board and the decision not to permit drones is also one of risk management as we operate adjacent to a low fly airstrip.
We will on occasion consider drone use requests from media in exceptional circumstances when a permit has been obtained. These requests will only be considered as part of a private charter by prior arrangement.
In the event that drone use is approved on a private charter, use must be with an approved Department of Conservation permit and in compliance with the Civil Aviation Authority of NZ guidelines.
